These are round bale holders on sale at our local Tractor Supply. Must have been fun setting them up in that display--those things are heavy! I liked the effect, though, and couldn't pass up a shot.
That's not how they bale them. These are just feeders. That's what they use to keep the waste down: the animals can't trample the hay into the mud and dirt. Keeps costs down.
They have these really neat balers that roll the strands of hay into the big bale, then when it reaches the desired size, it twines it (or wraps it, depending on the type of machine), and pops it out the back, awaiting pickup. It's cool to watch!
I thought that the thing that bales hay was called a "Farner" well live and learn, anyway I have seen magic shows where they make elephants a jet planes disappear, it's done with mirrors.
I am an avid (if not especially talented) amateur photographer. That's my third love. My first is my horses. My second is my cats.
I also have a small organic garden, big enough for my husband & I, and to share a bit with some friends and family.
I train my little horses to harness, and teach them tricks, like bowing, lying down, etc. I'm working on dressage movements with one!
I haven't spent any time at all on a working farm so I had no idea how they got those bales of hay so perfectly round. Thanks for the information.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a farm girl either, never even considered how they did that. Love your bright red circle!

ReplyDeleteInteresting shot and thanks for the info about the baling. I'd always wondered about that too...
ReplyDeleteNicely done. I didn't know that never living on a farm.

I love the red dominating, and always like seeing round bales in fields and now know how they get used. Another reason this is so fun!
ReplyDeleteI love how the red one pops. Thanks for the interesting tidbit on serving up dinner to your animals! :-)
ReplyDeleteNice photo and fun to learn about bale holders, too!
